Victorian Pleasure Box

This assemblage evokes a nickelodeon-style viewing machine. The pictures framing the work are repetitive pictures of Sigmund Freud, the Mona Lisa and Greta Garbo framing a picture of a nude bicyclist of the nineteenth century. The breast construction makes use of oil cans, cap screws and Old Spice stick deodorant containers. The doll hands with string around a nebulous body symbolize sexual desire.

Pandora’s Box

This work is a reference to the Louise Brooks silent movie from Germany of the same name, made in the 1920s. This box art of forbidden erotica, opens new desires and dreams suitable for none other but history’s iconic psychiatrist, Sigmund Freud.

The Wait

This is the artist’s first work in mixed media. It has a glass construction of a window looking out at the planet Earth. Pictures of male relatives from the nineteenth century are on the wall against a patterned wallpaper of an earlier era. Wedding pictures and those of a mother and son are on a small table. The man with his medals is waiting, but the Earth shown orbiting in the window indicates that the waiting is taking place in another world.

Doll’s Head

This was the artist’s first free-standing sculpture. It is a combination of many materials including an antique doll’s head, doll arms, mechanical gears and small carriage wheels fastened to a wooden box adorned by a wooden heart, paste-on stars and Erector Set parts.

Mona Lisa Smiles

The inspiration for this work came from a desire to give a topical gift to the artist’s dentist. It incorporates an unsmiling Mona Lisa and a picture of smiles and false teeth.
